A project that R4D researcher Dami Moon is involved in has been selected by the Japan Partnership for Circular Economy (J4CE) as a noteworthy case for 2024.
Furthermore, the project has been featured among the total of 18 cases selected to be published in the J4CE Initiatives on the Circular Economy by Japanese Companies: Noteworthy Cases 2024 Edition. The Noteworthy Cases publication is created with the goal of spreading awareness of outstanding technologies and business models in Japan related to areas contributing to a circular economy, such as the 3Rs, the sharing economy, and environmentally-friendly design. The theme for the 2024 edition of the publication is “creating and promoting examples of collaboration between businesses.”

The featured project is a collaboration between Mercari, Inc., Yakult Sanyo Corporation, and Akitakata City and Miyoshi City of Hiroshima Prefecture. It was launched on World Environment Day on June 5 and is a proof of concept that involves collecting usable items that people no longer need from Akitakata City and Miyoshi City and selling them on Mercari’s e-commerce platform Mercari Shops. R4D researcher Dami Moon is working to calculate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions avoided through reuse in this project.
