Value Exchange Engineering Symposium: Online Event Code of Conduct

The University of Tokyo’s Research Institute for an Inclusive Society through Engineering and Mercari, Inc. (together, the “Organizers”) have defined this Code of Conduct for the Value Exchange Engineering Symposium to provide all participants with a safe, secure, and valuable experience in accordance with the purpose of the event. We ask that all participants read and understand this Code of Conduct and communicate respectfully and politely throughout the event.

1. Purpose of the Value Exchange Engineering Symposium

The Value Exchange Engineering Symposium (the “Symposium”) will delve into this young research field to examine both where it stands today as well as where it is headed for the future. In addition to participation from experts and researchers active in the field, the Symposium also aims to advance dialogue with the public.

2. Prohibited Conduct

  • Speech or conduct that is destructive or offensive, or that makes any participant uncomfortable
  • Behavior that interferes with the ability of any participant to comfortably take part in the event
  • Harassment*
  • Unauthorized access to or attacks on the system
  • Behavior that does not match the purpose of the Symposium, such as advertisement, solicitation, or missionary work aimed at any participant
  • Abuse of information obtained from the Symposium/online events or provision of such information to a malicious third party
  • Refusal to cooperate with instructions and warnings given by the Organizers
  • Any behavior that violates applicable laws and ordinances
*Harassment includes, but is not limited to, the following behavior.
  • Speech or conduct that makes others uncomfortable or promotes discrimination regarding protected characteristics such as gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, physical ability, neurological characteristics, physical appearance/size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or creed
  • Displays of inappropriate images in public spaces (including online)
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, and harassment of and insulting speech/conduct directed at any participant
  • Speech or conduct promoting oppression of minorities, such as inappropriate comments
  • All other behavior generally considered to be harassment

3. Reporting Prohibited Conduct

The person making you uncomfortable might not realize how they are affecting you. Let us know through the point of contact in section 5 if someone harasses you or makes you feel uncomfortable, or if you have any other concerns. Also, let us know if you see someone engaging in harassment or making someone else uncomfortable.

4. Violations

In the event a participant engages in prohibited conduct, the Organizers will give said participant a warning and delete any offending messages. If the participant continues to engage in prohibited conduct despite repeated warnings, we may ask them to leave the online event and/or ban them from attending any future events. Participants in the Symposium agree to promptly and unconditionally abide by all instructions given by the Organizers.
